Police clashes with opposition in Iran

Baku –APA. Iranian police clashed with reformist opposition in Isfahan and Najafabad cities. Opposition supporters gathered to commemorate Ayatollah Hussein Ali Montazeri, who died last weekend, faced with strong confrontation by police, who used tear gas against the demonstrators. Some of the protesters were killed and more than 50 opposition supporters were arrested. Reformists’ supporter Ayatollah Jalaleddin Taheri’s house was surrounded by police worn in civilian in Isfahan.

The confrontation began in Najafabad in the night to December 23. The people took the streets and chanted anti-government slogans. Najafabad is Montazeri’s hometown.
