Baku-APA At least seven people were killed and 14 others wounded on Thursday in a traffic accident at the toll booth of a highway in western Mexico, local authorities announced, APA reports quoting Xinhua.

According to local police, the accident occurred around 11:30 a.m. (1630 GMT) in the 21st Century Highway of the western state of Michoacan, when a truck ran down the highway with a failed brake and crashed into a toll booth.

The truck rushed into a group of people who had seized the highway toll booth to protest against the education reform carried out by the government, leaving 7 killed and 14 wounded.

The Michoacan government reported on its Twitter account that the highway was closed in both directions for rescue work and alternate routes were recommended.

Two hours after the accident, the Michoacan State Attorney General announced that three of the victims have been identified as members of the National Coordination of Education Workers, while the rest remained to be identified.

The union leader Juan Jose Ortega lamented the facts but said the accident will not halt the demonstration scheduled for the following days.
