Baku-APA. An Argentine first-division soccer match was abandoned on Monday after a fan was killed and another badly injured during clashes with riot police, .
The incident reportedly occurred before Lanus's match with Estudiantes at the Ciudad de la Plata stadium in Buenos Aires province.
Officials decided to call the game off when they were informed of the news at half-time, according to local media.
"The police reported a (Lanus) supporter had died and in the face of this situation it was necessary to suspend the match," Estudiantes president Enrique Lombardi said.
"It was a unanimous decision by both clubs. It was for humanitarian reasons."
The tragedy comes just three days after Velez Sarsfield's home fixture against All Boys was also abandoned due to fan violence.
Estudiantes were leading Monday's match 2-0 when the decision to suspend the match was made.
