Baku-APA. U.S. President Barack Obama on Sunday spoke with his South Korean counterpart Park Geun-hye over phone on regional issues, the White House said on Monday, APA reports quoting Xinhua.
The two leaders discussed situation on the Korean Peninsula, and agreed to maintain "close communication and coordination" in pursuing the "denuclearization" of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK).
The Sunday evening conversation was designed to build on discussions from Park's recent visit to Washington, the White House said in a statement.
During Park's visit to Washington in May, Obama reiterated the U.S. defense commitment to South Korea with both conventional and nuclear forces.
