Baku-APA. A Norwegian man serving a 21-year prison sentence for killing 77 people and wounding 242 others at a youth camp a couple of years ago has applied to the University of Oslo to study political science, local media reported Tuesday, APA reports quoting RIA Novosti.
Anders Breivik, who before the shooting reportedly wrote a 1,500-page manifesto in which he condemned an influx of Muslims into Europe, tried to register a far-right political organization from behind bars but was turned down.
However, if the 34-year-old wants to study political science, the prison’s director would encourage such a move.
"The prison will always try to pave the way for inmates to get a formal education so that they are able to get a job when they get out," Ila Prison director Knut Bjarkeid told Norway’s TV2.
University of Oslo rector Ole Petter Ottersen said the school would accept Breivik's application just like any other.
"We cannot refuse anyone the chance of studying at the University of Oslo. We have to follow the technical rules for admission," he told TV2.
Several poli-sci professors at the university told the channel on condition of anonymity that they would refuse to teach the killer.
