United States President Joe Biden's administration is considering undertaking legal action against Russian software company Kaspersky Lab, suspected of posing a threat to the country's cybersecurity, APA reports citing Wall Street Journal (WSJ).
According to people familiar with the matter, the action would be in the hands of the Commerce Department. The sources also said that, if the case turned out to be successful, it would serve as a perfect test for future action against ByteDance Ltd.'s TikTok.
A representative for the Commerce Department told the WSJ that the branch does not comment "on any on any potential company specific actions" but remains "committed to fully exercising its authorities to protect Americans' sensitive data, and to working with Congress in a bipartisan way to adapt to evolving risks."
