The US says its forces conducted a helicopter raid in northern Syria and may have killed a senior IS leader, CENTCOM announced today on Twitter, APA reports.
“The forces of the US Army Central Command (CENTCOM) conducted a raid in northern Syria early in the morning of April 17, targeting a senior leader of the Islamic State (IS) jihadist group. and also the planner of terrorist attacks in the Middle East and Europe,” noted.
“The target may have died during the raid. Two other armed individuals were also killed,” the statement added.
CENTCOM did not provide details about the identity of the IS leader in the raid and why it has not been determined for certain whether he is dead or not. US special forces often identify the target by fingerprinting or DNA testing, if practical conditions allow.
