United States President Joe Biden decided to extend the national emergency over Russia's "harmful foreign activities," APA reports citing Teletrader.
In a letter to congressional leaders, Biden said he decided to prolong the measures first implemented in April 2021 beyond April 15 this year, when they were set to expire since Moscow's activities "continue to pose an unusual and extraordinary threat to the national security, foreign policy, and economy of the United States."
The US president explained that the decision came as he believes Russia is continuing to pursue its efforts to "undermine the conduct of free and fair democratic elections" in the US, as well as "engage in and facilitate malicious cyber-enabled activities." He also accused Moscow of influencing foreign governments through "transnational corruption" and violating international law and the territorial integrity of countries.
