Russia begins military exercise near US coasts

Caracas –APA. Russian and Venezuelan warships began joint naval maneuvers in the Caribbean Sea. It is the first time post-Cold War period Russia’s navy carries out such exercises in the region, APA reports. The exercises under cod name Venrus 2008 will last until December 3. 1600 Russian and 700 Venezuelan mariners take part in the maneuvers. Russia sent 4 and Venezuela 11 ships to the Caribbean. Russia and Venezuela aim to coordinate their joint activity for the air defense system.
