The U.S. Senate approved the nomination of Matthew Bryza as the U.S. Ambassador to Azerbaijan

The Committee hearing leaded by the Senator John Kerry, who voted for Bryza’s confirmation. Only two senators - Barbara Boxer (D-CA) and Robert Menendez (D-NJ) voted against.

The Senators expressed their confidence that Mr. Bryza will be a good ambassador in Azerbaijan.

His nomination should be approve by the Senate itself soon.

As deputy assistant secretary of state for European and Eurasian affairs from 2005 to 2009, Bryza coordinated US energy policy in the Black and Caspian Sea regions, and represented the US on the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe’s Minsk Group talks on a resolution of Armenia-Azerbaijan conflict over the Nagorno Karabakh.
