Obama calls Schwarzenegger for gas fire

Baku-APA. U.S. President Barack Obama on Saturday called California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger, offering help in the aftermath of a huge fire from a gas line explosion that killed at least four people near San Francisco International Airport, APA reports quoting news.xinhuanet.com website.

Obama expressed his condolences to Schwarzenegger for the loss of life in the San Bruno gas fire, as well as his concern for " those still recovering from injuries and picking up the pieces of their lives," according to the White House.

Schwarzenegger thanked Obama for reaching out and for all of the support he offered. Obama told Schwarzenegger that the federal government would provide resources if needed.

The fire, which destroyed almost 40 homes and killed at least four people, broke out on Thursday night. Local media reported that a digger working too close to the pipeline caused the initial explosion. The utility that operates the line said it was trying to find out what caused the steel gas pipe to rupture and ignite.
