Haitian president says at least 30 000 died in quake

He said he had received reports of death tolls ranging from 30,000 to 100,000, but it was still too early to know the exact number. “Parliament has collapsed. The tax office has collapsed. He said there were many people still missing under ruins and they couldn’t be rescued in time because lack of rescuers. The quake hit Haiti on January 12 registered 7 on the Richter scale and later aftershocks as strong as 5.5 was felt throughout the area.
