Barack Obama: â€œU.S. cancels missile defense plans in Poland and the Czech Republic until 2015â€

He said it would be replaced with a plan, which would be better defense against a threat of Iranian missiles, APA reports. Obama said Iranâ€™s short- and medium-range missiles are more dangerous than intercontinental missiles.
Defense Secretary Robert Gates said new system would link smaller radar systems with a network of sensors and missiles that could be deployed at sea or on land. He said they had an opportunity to install new transmitters and missile defense systems in north and south of Europe, which would prevent missile threats from Iran and other countries.
Gen. James Cartwright said U.S. Navy would deploy three stand-by warships with SM-3 missile installations.
According to pentagon, the canceled plans will be restored in Poland and the Czech Republic beginning from 2015. The new missile defense system plan was approved by the Defense Secretary and chiefs of joint staff committees.
