"After his participation at today’s conference on Libya in London the secretary-general will travel on to Nairobi where at the end of this week he will chair the twice-yearly meeting of the Chief Executives Board (CEB), which brings together the heads of the agencies, funds, and programs of the UN system," Nesirky said.

The CEB is the UN’s highest-level mechanism for interagency cooperation. It promotes coherence between the UN’s many branches to ensure that the global organization delivers on its commitments.

"While in Kenya the secretary-general will also meet with the country’s president, prime minister, and other officials," Nesirky said. He will also visit a geothermal plant, and then return to New York over the weekend.

Ban’s deputy, Asha-Rose Migiro will attend the CEB meeting as well, and afterwards she will travel to Tanzania, according to Nesirky.

The deputy secretary-general will also be attending the CEB meeting, and following that she and UNAIDS Executive Director Michel Sidibe will travel to Tanzania for a two-day visit, Nesirky said.

He said they will seek to generate political goodwill and support for the General Assembly’s high-level meting on HIV/AIDS, which is scheduled to take place from the June 8 to 10.

Nesirky added that while in Tanzania Migiro and Sidibe will visit UN-backed health projects and meet with government officials and communities impacted by HIV.
