Baku – APA. President Paul Kagame has won 93 percent of the vote in Rwanda’s presidential elections Monday, with the second-place finisher gathering just over 5 percent, according to a total tally of provisional results released Wednesday. According to Rwanda’s national electoral commission, over 98 percent of registered voters participated in the elections, with some places registering 100-percent voter turnout, APA reports quoting “New York Times”.
“This has been one of the most successful and peaceful elections,” said Charles Munyaneza, head of Rwanda’s National Electoral Commission. The electoral commission said that the elections, Rwanda’s second since the end of genocide in 1994, were free and fair, with no evidence of voter intimidation. International observers have said Monday’s vote was “largely accurate” but that credible challengers to President Kagame were unable to run for office.
