Iran, Zimbabwe urged to join hands in fighting against western sanctions

Baku-APA. Iran and Zimbabwe should join hands in fighting against the western sanctions, a diplomat here said on Friday, APA reports quoting news.xinhuanet.com website.

Speaking during a ceremony to donate a consignment of medicines to Chegutu Hospital in Zimbabwe’s province of Mashonaland West, Iranian Ambassador to Zimbabwe Mohammed Pournajaf said Western countries, particularly the United States and Britain, are bullies which need to be resisted fiercely.

Pournajaf said like Zimbabwe, Iran is confronted with the challenge of warding off sanctions which the West instituted.

"We should unite in fighting against global arrogance perpetuated by the United States, Britain and the Zionists who are seeking to overthrow our revolutionary governments and replacing them with puppets," he said.

"Iran is also under sanctions sponsored by the West, but we continue to denounce them in our fight for self identity."

He said Zimbabwean President Robert Mugabe is an iconic revolutionary not only to Zimbabwe, but to all countries seeking self determination in the face of overwhelming Western machinations.

"We should learn from President Mugabe on how to be revolutionary. He is a great leader, not only to Zimbabwe but to all third world countries," he said.

Speaking at the same occasion, Zimbabwean Media, Information and Publicity Minister Webster Shamu said punitive economic sanctions are preventing people from accessing medical treatment.

Shamu said the West sought to effect regime change in Zimbabwe. "Zimbabwe like Iran is under sanctions. People are failing to access medicines because of the sanctions."

"Children and women are dying, Western powers stand condemned for theses deaths," he said.
