Belarus outlined the main goals of the New Urban Agenda at the 13th session of the World Urban Forum (WUF13) held in Baku, Igor Sergeyenko, Chairman of the House of Representatives of the National Assembly of the Republic of Belarus, said during the Leaders’ Session within the framework of the 13th session of the World Urban Forum (WUF13) held in Baku, APA reports
“First of all, I would like to express my gratitude to the leadership of Azerbaijan, President Ilham Aliyev and all the organizers of this Forum for the high-level preparation and the traditional sincere hospitality. The words ‘peace’ and ‘security’ are included in the theme of our forum. Today, this topic is more important than ever. Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko has repeatedly stated that sustainable development is impossible without peace. Belarus pursues a peace-loving foreign policy based on mutually beneficial cooperation. This cooperation also covers the fields of infrastructure construction and urban development. One of the vivid examples of such partnership is the Belarusian-Azerbaijani joint project on the creation of an agro-town in Azerbaijan’s Aghdam district. The idea of this project belongs to the leaders of our countries, and I am confident that its implementation will contribute to improving the living conditions of many Azerbaijanis. Belarus is ready to share its experience and capabilities in the field of human development,” Igor Sergeyenko noted.
The Chairman of the House of Representatives of the National Assembly of the Republic of Belarus noted that his country actively supports global urbanization trends: “We are guided by the New Urban Agenda. In 2025, the National Sustainable Development Strategy of the Republic of Belarus until 2040 was adopted. One of the main directions in this document is dedicated to housing construction. Our goal is simple and concrete — every citizen must be provided with quality and affordable housing that meets modern standards. The future belongs to energy-saving technologies, the widespread use of renewable energy sources and environmentally safe construction systems. We are transitioning from ordinary buildings to smart residential neighborhoods. The current session coincides with the 10th anniversary of the implementation of the New Urban Agenda. This period has been a stage of searching for the optimal model of urban development. Today, it is necessary to strengthen the achievements attained in the main priority areas. Belarus is open to sincere dialogue and meaningful partnership and is ready to work together with you to address the challenges of modern urban development. Only through joint efforts is it possible to achieve solutions to these problems,” Igor Sergeyenko emphasized.
