Journalist Khadija Ismayilova files appeals against court decisions

Baku. Shahriyar Alizade – APA. Journalist Khadija Ismayilova has filed appeals against the two decisions of the Baku Court of Appeal.

The appeals will be considered by the Supreme Court in the coming days.

Earlier, Ismayilova had filed an appeal to the Baku Court of Appeal on the abolition of charges in connection with illegal business activities. The court denied the appeal. One of the appeals was filed in connection with this decision.

In addition, the Baku Court of Appeal had rejected the appeal filed by Ismayilova against the decision disallowing the journalist to leave the country.

Ismayilova had been arrested in December 2014 on charges of misappropriation and embezzlement on a large scale, illegal business, tax evasion and abuse of power.

The journalist had been sentenced to seven years and five months in the prison under the judgment of the Baku Court of Grave Crimes.

The Supreme Court of Azerbaijan had made a decision on 25 May 2016 to release journalist Khadija Ismayilova and sentence her to conditional imprisonment term of three years and six months.
