ANAS Geology Institute PR Department told APA-Economics that after researches conducted from 1998-2010, the scientists published a joint article in the Natural Hazard journal in 2012 and described geodynamic process in the Eastern Caucasus. The scientists gave detailed information about deformation processes caused by compression of the earth's crust in Kur lowlands, Absheron, especially Baku. They noted that powerful energy accumulated in this area can be dangerous for settlements and oil infrastructure around Baku.
ANAS correspondent member Fakhraddin Gadirov said that jointly with US scientists, the scientists of Geology Institute have been conducting monitoring in the Caucasus region, as well as Caspian Sea, studying processes in the depth of the Earth for about 16 years via GPS (Global Positioning System) stations and points. The appearance of the situation followed by modern scientific-research technologies have been observed by everyone on February 10. The scientist added that there is no talk in the article about destructive quake. Media reports about serious disasters have nothing to do with the authors of the article. The information of the authors was not translated correctly when the article was published in Natural Hazard journal. It was a misunderstanding and caused confusion in the society. Thereafter, the scientists clarified the issue.
