The UN Population Fund has published its annual 2016 report entitled "Millions of Lives Changed.”
The report focuses on the work done by the United Nations Population Fund last year to protect the health and promote the rights of millions of women and children, as well as to realize their potential.
The report is divided into 6 parts which cover Arab countries, North and East Africa, Central and West Africa, Eastern Europe, Central Asian countries, Asia and the Pacific region and Latin America.
The most vulnerable groups include national minorities, refugees, migrants, young people, and the poor. All of them face serious problems with their reproductive rights and access to detailed information. About 17 million women still do not have the opportunity to use modern contraception and most of them use modern contraceptive methods, which in turn leads to unwanted pregnancies and sexually transmitted infections.
In the designated regions, there are 257 abortions for every 1,000 live births, and every year teenagers give birth to 443,000 children. This is thrice higher than the same figure in Western Europe. In addition, discrimination against women, gender-based violence and gender disparities continue to be the main manifestations of gender discrimination.
