Today, March 8, is International Women's Day.

According to APA, the day was established in 1910 at the Second International Conference of Socialist Women held in Copenhagen at the proposal of Clara Zetkin.

In essence, the day was created as a symbol of solidarity among women in their struggle for social and political rights, economic equality, and the protection of their rights. In many countries around the world, March 8 is celebrated specifically as a day honoring working women.

The day was first celebrated in 1911 in Germany, Austria, Switzerland, and Denmark, and later in Russia in 1913. In 1975, the United Nations officially declared March 8 as International Women's Day.

In Azerbaijan, the holiday has been regularly celebrated since 1917.

In 1998, the State Committee for Family, Women, and Children's Affairs was established in Azerbaijan. The country is also represented in the Council of Europe's bureau on women's issues and is a full member of the United Nations Commission on the Status of Women.

Since 1995, Azerbaijan has been a party to the International Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women.

March 8 – International Women's Day – is a non-working day in Azerbaijan.
