Armenia has effectively withdrawn from the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO), its Secretary General Taalatbek Masadykov told TASS, APA reports.

He said the CSTO sends member states documents concerning its activities, but Armenia does not participate in discussions or decision-making.

Nevertheless, Yerevan does not object to decisions being adopted in a restricted format and does not obstruct the organisation’s work.

Masadykov noted that Armenia also skips the organisation’s main events and military exercises, only listening to weekly briefings.

The secretary general linked the situation to Article 25 of the CSTO Charter, saying Armenia had effectively withdrawn on its own.

Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan previously told parliament that he supported his country’s withdrawal from the CSTO and would welcome such a decision.
