The regional state of emergency in Dagestan will soon be elevated to the federal level, Russian Emergency Situations Minister Alexander Kurenkov said at a meeting chaired by President Vladimir Putin on eliminating the consequences of the natural disaster in Dagestan, APA’s Moscow bureau reports.
According to him, six people have died and more than 200 people have been rescued as a result of the natural disaster in Dagestan.
Head of the republic Sergey Melikov said that floods in Dagestan have damaged 842 socially significant facilities. He noted that up to 1.5 million residents of Dagestan are in the emergency zone due to mass flooding following heavy rains.
Melikov added that floods and landslides have disrupted transport connections with 97 settlements.
