According to him, Ganja quake was expectable, because fault moved from Sheki to the south: “On April 19, the quake hit Sheki, one of the wings of this fault, and Ganja today. Starting from Sheki, the fault is moving towards Dashkesen through Ganja. 7-magnitude quake is not expected in the area. But aftershocks are expectable.”
Yetirmishli said that the recent seismic processes in Iran and China don’t have impact on the activation of quake in Azerbaijan.
The Director General noted that now the most seismic zone in the country is Shamakhy-Ismayilli. A relative activation is also observed in Lankaran.
A quake has been recorded 18 km north-west away from Ganja at 11:13 today. The quake was measured 4-magnitude on the Richter scale and felt in Ganja, Shamkir, Goygol and Gedebey.
