Montenegro Ombudsman takes situation of detained Azerbaijani citizen under supervision

Sinisa Bjeković, the Commissioner for Human Rights and Freedoms of the Republic of Montenegro, has officially responded to the letter from Ombudsman Sabina Aliyeva regarding the detention of an Azerbaijani citizen in Podgorica, the Press Service of the Ombudsman Office told APA.

The Montenegrin Ombudsman stated that the matter has been taken under control, that direct contact has been established with the Police Department of the country in this regard, and that special sensitivity is being shown towards the detained Azerbaijani citizen.

Bjeković noted that the rights of every citizen of the Republic of Azerbaijan will be protected, including issues related to the prevention of any discrimination, hate speech, or hostility based on ethnic, national, or religious grounds, and emphasized that the progress of the investigation and judicial proceedings concerning the detained individuals will be monitored within the scope of his mandate.

Note that riots have occurred in Podgorica, the capital of Montenegro. As a result, Turkish citizens and one Azerbaijani citizen have been detained.
