Two Palestinians opened fire at Israelis in the occupied West Bank on Friday, wounding five people, two of them critically, before Israeli troops shot and killed the gunmen, Israeli authorities said, Xinhua reports.
The Israeli military said the two Palestinians arrived by car at a junction near the settlement of Kiryat Arba, close to the city of Hebron, and opened fire before fleeing the scene, triggering a manhunt.
The two Palestinians were killed in an exchange of fire with troops, and the area had been cordoned off as searches continued for possible suspects, it added.
The shooting comes amid escalating violence in the West Bank, where Israeli military raids and settler attacks have killed and injured Palestinians and displaced communities.
According to the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs, Israeli forces and settlers have killed five Palestinians and injured over 240 in October this year, adding that 2,060 settler attacks have resulted in Palestinian casualties or property damage since the beginning of 2026.
