The procedure for extending the duration of paid maternity leave related to pregnancy and childbirth has been determined, APA reports.
This is reflected in the amendments to the Labor Code, the implementation of which was approved by a decree signed by President Ilham Aliyev.
According to the law, the duration of the pre-birth portion of maternity leave will be extended on a paid basis by the number of days that pass between the expected date of birth and the actual date of the child’s birth, and in such cases, the post-birth portion of the leave will not be shortened.
It should be noted that under the Labor Code, working women are granted 126 calendar days of paid leave for pregnancy and the post-childbirth period (70 calendar days before childbirth and 56 calendar days after childbirth). In cases of complicated childbirth or the birth of two or more children, post-childbirth leave is granted for 70 calendar days.
Women working in agricultural production are granted maternity leave for the following periods:
- 140 calendar days in case of normal childbirth (70 days before and 70 days after childbirth);
- 156 calendar days in case of complicated childbirth (70 days before and 86 days after childbirth);
- 180 calendar days in case of the birth of two or more children (70 days before and 110 days after childbirth).
