The halal industry is a major economic opportunity for the Islamic world, Amira Elfadil, Advisor to the Director-General of the Islamic World Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (ICESCO), said during her speech at the Halal Economy Leaders Forum held as part of the Islamic Development Bank (IsDB) Group Annual Meetings in Baku, APA reports.
According to her, ICESCO brings together 54 member states, and the organization works to create new opportunities for young people and women and to empower them.
“We are exploring ways to empower youth and women and enable them to play a greater role by utilizing ICESCO’s core areas of education, culture and science,” Amira Elfadil emphasized.
The ICESCO official stated that the organization has paid special attention to the development of the halal industry in recent years and thanked Azerbaijan for the invitation to this important event.
“Over the past four years, we have become more actively involved in the halal industry. In this regard, the leading role within ICESCO belongs to the science and technology sector. We work together with the education and culture sectors,” she said.
Amira Elfadil noted that the halal industry is linked not only to economic issues but also to cultural values.
She also spoke about opportunities for cooperation with the Islamic Development Bank (IsDB), noting that a memorandum of understanding is planned to be signed between the two organizations.
“One of the key projects is to work jointly to enhance capacities and promote development in the halal industry,” Amira Elfadil said.
According to her, since 2022, ICESCO has been conducting seminars, training programs and awareness-raising activities related to the halal industry in its member states. The organization seeks to contribute to the development of the halal industry by cooperating with governments, the private sector and non-governmental organizations.
