Ebola is not considered endemic to Azerbaijan and the current risk of the disease spreading in the country is assessed as low, the Center for Control of Especially Dangerous Infections under the Ministry of Health stated in response to APA's inquiry.
According to the information, the disease is mainly recorded in certain regions of the African continent and has a localized nature.
According to the statement, based on available international data, the likelihood of the epidemic spreading on a large scale to other regions is currently considered limited.
“The virus is transmitted through close contact with animals (fruit bats, great apes, etc.), as well as with the blood and other biological fluids of an infected person, and is not spread through ordinary social contact. For this reason, the real epidemiological threat to the population is assessed as low.
To prevent potential risks in our country, epidemiological surveillance measures are being continuously implemented. Medical monitoring is organized for individuals arriving from high-risk countries or those who have been in contact with suspected cases. In cases of suspected infection, the Center for Control of Especially Dangerous Infections has the necessary laboratory infrastructure and testing systems to conduct laboratory examinations.”
It was noted that at the current stage there is no need for additional restrictions or special measures for the population.
“Citizens are only advised to follow general hygiene rules during international travel and monitor information from official sources.
The Ministry of Health continuously monitors the situation together with international organizations and will promptly inform the public if necessary.”
Note that the Ebola virus has spread in the African region, particularly in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. Concerns have emerged in society over whether there is a risk of Ebola spreading in Azerbaijan.
