“Selling single cigarettes and one by one increases their accessibility for teenagers”, Hande Harmanci, WHO Representative and Head of Country Office said at the seminar entitled “Primary health care services and building capacity in the fight against non-communicable diseases”, APA reports.
H. Hermanci noted that selling single cigarettes is not right. According to her, tobacco also creates the same level of dependence as caffeine in humans: “Tobacco refusal systems must be created. This system must work out and be supported by everyone. This is not an easy matter. Because there is a billion-dollar worth tobacco industry fighting against us. They spend millions of dollars on advertising tobacco. And we are trying to fight against it with the little fund”.
WHO official said that some restrictions on smoking in Azerbaijan are not followed: "Even though Icherisheher has been identified as a smoke-free zone, we still see people smoking in cafes in that area".
