The purpose of this project is to ensure the health and psychological well-being of children, Deputy Minister of Science and Education Firudin Gurbanov said during the discussion of the draft law "On Information, Informatization and Protection of Information" at a joint meeting of the Milli Majlis Committees on Human Rights, Family, Women and Children's Issues, and Legal Policy and State Building held today, APA reports.

The deputy minister stated that research shows the use of social media leads to negative consequences for mental health: “Many countries have moved to regulate children's and adolescents' access to social networks through legislation. European countries, the United States and China have adopted such measures. Interesting results were achieved in China after these regulations were introduced, with time spent in front of screens decreasing by more than 10%.”

The deputy minister also touched upon the difficulty of supervision: “Children can often bypass controls. In Australia, teenagers have appealed these restrictions to the High Court. Such experiences also exist. As a ministry, we are trying to introduce certain restrictions in schools. Currently, children's access to TikTok is blocked in schools. In general, filters are applied to children's internet access in schools, and restrictions have been imposed on more than 200 harmful videos.”
