The number of people in Azerbaijan who need a heart transplant is high, said Chairman of the Milli Majlis Healthcare Committee, Ahliman Amiraslanov, at the roundtable discussion on the topic “The first heart transplant in the Caucasus: a historic achievement of Azerbaijan’s healthcare and future prospects,” APA reports.
According to him, the main issue in this matter is finding a donor: “After the first heart transplant was performed in Azerbaijan, we saw an increase in the number of people who want to become heart donors. Sometimes we adopt laws but are unable to implement them. However, thanks to the serious efforts of the Ministry of Health in this field, transplantation was carried out. A Coordination Center was established in this area. For this operation to be performed in greater numbers, not only doctors but society as a whole must act in this direction. People should actively participate in becoming donors. Undoubtedly, those who become donors are the number one contributors to this success."
