Azerbaijan's National Hero Shahin Taghiyev laid to rest at Military Memorial Cemetery -PHOTO

A farewell ceremony was held in Malmö, Sweden, for Shahin Taghiyev, a National Hero of Azerbaijan, who passed away there, APA reports.

Representatives of the Ministry of Defense, the State Committee for Work with Diaspora, military personnel, the National Hero’s fellow soldiers, relatives, and members of the public attended the farewell ceremony.

The National Hero was laid to rest at the Military Memorial Cemetery.

Note that Shahin Taghiyev passed away on December 29 last year in the city of Malmö, Kingdom of Sweden, after a long illness.

Recall that Shahin Taghiyev, originally from Shusha, was born on February 3, 1949, in the city of Tartar. In 1969, he graduated from the Energy Technical College and was assigned to Russia’s Udmurt region. From a young age, Shahin Taghiyev worked in the energy sector in Russia and Azerbaijan, later engaging in trade. In 1988, he joined the national liberation movement.

In 1991, he volunteered to take part in the Karabakh war and, holding the rank of lieutenant, led combat operations as a company commander. In 1992, he was appointed commander of the “Qurtuluş” (Salvation) battalion, which was formed on the basis of that unit. He displayed exceptional bravery in breaking through enemy lines in the Aghdara direction, as well as in battles fought in the directions of Tartar, Seysulan, Yarımca, and Levanarkh.

He moved to Europe in 2001. Shahin Tagiyev passed away in Sweden after a long illness at a rehabilitation center.
