Azerbaijani Ombudsman: "Landmine problem causes numerous casualties"

"As a result of the armed aggression of Armenia, which implements a policy of severe hatred on racial, ethnic, and religious grounds, besides making groundless territorial claims against Azerbaijan, all the economic and social infrastructure in the economic regions of Karabakh and East Zangazur, which are an integral part of our country, were completely destroyed during the nearly 30-year occupation period." said Commissioner for Human Rights of the Republic of Azerbaijan (Ombudsman) Sabina Aliyeva while her speech at Baku International Conference of Ombudspersons and National Human Rights Institutions on "Role of Ombudspersons and National Human Rights Institutions in the fields of business and human rights" dedicated to the 20th anniversary of Ombudsman Apparatus, APA reports.

According to her, the problem of numerous landmines buried in our territories by Armenia during the occupation delays the safe return of hundreds of thousands of IDPs to their native lands, causes numerous human losses, and creates serious obstacles to the economic revival of the area.
