Member of the Milli Majlis of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Parvana Valiyeva has proposed the creation of a separate committee on housing and urban development within the Parliamentary Network of the Non-Aligned Movement, APA-Economics reports.
She voiced this proposal during the roundtable titled “Translating urban commitments into national action: the parliamentary pathway to housing for all” organized within the framework of the 13th session of the World Urban Forum (WUF13) held in Baku.
The MP noted that the executive secretariat of the Parliamentary Network of the Non-Aligned Movement, established during Azerbaijan’s chairmanship, will operate in Baku.
UN-Habitat Executive Director Anacláudia Rossbach positively assessed the initiative, stating that such platforms can play an important role in enabling parliaments to engage more actively in the global housing agenda.
