A delegation led by Deputy Minister of Justice of Azerbaijan - Head of the Penitentiary Service Mirsaleh Seyidov participated in the "Correctional Services Week" held in the capital of Kenya, Nairobi, on October 21-23, the Ministry told APA.
The delegation visited the embassy of Azerbaijan in Kenya as part of the visit, laid a bouquet of flowers in front of the bust of the National Leader, Heydar Aliyev, and paid tribute to his memory.
Speaking as a guest of honor at the opening ceremony, the Deputy Minister wished success to the work of the conference. The event continued with discussions in panels and working sessions on the development of the penitentiary sector, the process of correction of prisoners, the application of digital technologies and artificial intelligence, and other topics.
A meeting was also held with Salome M. Beacco, Secretary General of the Kenyan Ministry of Home Affairs. The meeting discussed the exchange of experience between Azerbaijan and Kenya in the penitentiary sector, personnel training, rehabilitation and reintegration programs, and opportunities for cooperation in other areas.
Meetings were also held with the Deputy Ministers - Heads of Penitentiary Services of Sierra Leone and Eswatini.
The meetings were also attended by the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Azerbaijan to the Republic of Kenya, Sultan Hajiyev.
As part of the visit, the delegation also visited the Nairobi West Prison and got acquainted with the conditions created for prisoners.
