The World Health Organization (WHO), founded in 1948, is celebrating its 75th anniversary this year on April 7 - World Health Day, APA reports.
The WHO has planned a series of events to mark this historic day throughout the year as part of the "Health for All" campaign.
An event was held at the Azerbaijan Medical University (AMU) on this occasion, jointly organized by the World Health Organization's Azerbaijani representative office and the AMUN Club (Azerbaijan Medical University Model UN).
Professor Geray Geraybeyli, the rector of Azerbaijan Medical University, presented the opening speech, emphasizing Azerbaijan's strong ties with the World Health Organization.
Hande Harmancı, the chief of the WHO representative office in our country, delivered a lecture on "World Health Organization: 75 Years of Health Care" at the event. She provided thorough information on WHO's mission, structure, present activities, global and Azerbaijani achievements, and potential for collaboration: "Many achievements have been made in the field of healthcare in Azerbaijan.
Thus, the World Health Organization declared a country free of poliomyelitis in 2002 and malaria in 2023. We achieved these achievements together with our local partners and are proud to play a leading role in these activities."
AMUN club chairperson Gunesh Aliyeva spoke about the UN Model Club's relationship with the WHO representative office in our country, which functions under the Student Youth Organization of AMU. She noted that, as part of mutual activities, the WHO simulation conference was hosted in Azerbaijan for the first time at the end of last year.
Students' opinions were heard and their questions were answered at the end of the event.
