“Azerbaijan is located in a seismically active region. This reality forces us to take a responsible approach in the process of construction and operation of buildings, and in the urban planning process in general," Deputy Minister of Emergency Situations Jabrayil Khanlarov said at the conference titled “New Approaches in the Assessment of Seismic Hazard and Risk” dedicated to the “Year of Urban Planning and Architecture,” APA reports.
He stated that the urban planning model must meet modern standards and sustainability requirements: “It is known that the proper assessment of seismic risks in the urban planning process plays an important role in preventing possible natural disasters. In this direction, the expansion of the legal framework, the application of international standards, increasing seismic resilience, and making scientifically grounded decisions are of particular importance. Mutual information exchange should be ensured among regional countries in the management of seismic risks. International cooperation in this field is being successfully carried out.”
