Azerbaijan elebrates Novruz holiday

Novruz holiday is being celebrated in Azerbaijan.

Novruz is an ancient folk holiday symbolizing the arrival of spring, and its meaning is “New Day.”

Novruz is celebrated in the Northern Hemisphere on the day of the spring equinox, when day and night are equal (on March 20, 21, or 22).

Many peoples have associated the arrival of spring with the revival of nature and have held festivities on this occasion, celebrating it as the beginning of a new year.

Since ancient times, alongside peoples of Iran, Afghanistan, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, and other Eastern nations, Azerbaijanis have also welcomed the arrival of spring – the new year – with celebrations.

On September 30, 2009, Novruz was inscribed on UNESCO’s Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity, and on February 23, 2010, the United Nations declared March 21 as the “International Day of Novruz.”

This year, spring will arrive in Azerbaijan on March 20 at 18:46.

Due to the Novruz and Ramadan holidays, March 20, 21, 22, 23, 24, 25, 26, 27, 28, 29, and 30 are non-working days.
