The Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences (ANAS) has issued several official statements to the public regarding the issue of stripping Ramiz Anvar oglu Mehdiyev — whose preliminary investigation is ongoing by the State Security Service of the Republic of Azerbaijan and for whom a measure of restraint in the form of house arrest has been selected — of his full membership in the Academy, APA reports, citing the Public Relations Department of ANAS.
It was noted that the Academy’s leadership once again strongly condemns the anti-state actions committed by Ramiz Anvar oglu Mehdiyev and describes them as unforgivable.
It should be noted that the issue of expelling Ramiz Mehdiyev from full membership of the Academy will be resolved in compliance with the requirements of the current legislation. Specifically, if his guilt on the charges brought against him is confirmed by a court verdict, the matter will be submitted for discussion to the members of the General Assembly of the Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences, and an appropriate decision will be adopted.
The Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences once again emphasizes that in its activities it is guided by the rule of law, the principles of legality, and the transparency of legal procedures.
