Persons having received refugee status in Azerbaijan granted Travel document for first time

Today, at the State Migration Service (SMS), the Travel documents (Geneva passport) have been presented for the first time in our country to the persons having received the refugee status in the Azerbaijan Republic, APA reports.

The event was attended by representatives of various state authorities, diplomatic missions of foreign countries and international organizations accredited in Azerbaijan and non-governmental organizations (NGOs).

Head of the SMS Vusal Huseynov opening the event with introductory speech briefed on significance and advantages of the Travel document prepared by the Service that would give the right to travel beyond the country’s boundaries to the persons having received refugee status in Azerbaijan, as well as to members of their families. The Head of the Service said according to the Convention on Refugees’ status adopted in 1951 the Travel document was a document that gave the right to travel beyond boundaries of Azerbaijan Republic.

Vugar Huseynov noted that the Travel document prepared according to international requirements and standards was issued for the period of 5 years: “Beginning from today, the refugees by obtaining the Travel document will be able to easily travel to other countries. It is especially important for a refugee to travel beyond the country where he (she) has received asylum. This will ensure their full-fledged integration into Azerbaijani society. For instance, in order to use such opportunities as education, training or employment, such travels may become an important condition for a sustainable solutions of his (her) problems".
