Baku. Elnur Mammadli – APA. On the occasion of April 7 – World Health Day, event was held in Mahammadi village of Absheron region in connection with the Community Development model of USAID-funded ACQUIRE Reproductive Health and Family Planning Project, APA reports. Head of ACQUIRE Azerbaijan Reproductive Health and Family Planning Project Mavjuda Babamuradova informed the participants about the project. She said the project qualified 37 volunteer community peer educators in Baku and Absheron beginning from January, 2009. The trainers conducted about 500 community health sessions and raised awareness of 3000 women and 1500 men.
U.S. Ambassador to Azerbaijan Anne Derse said USAID cooperated with Azerbaijani government in the field of health. She said 200 million women around the world wanted to make use of the family planning, but failed to do it because of the problems in getting information and lack of support of their families and communities. The ambassador noted that the future depended on women, men and children. Anne Derse underlined that the activities in connection with reproductive health would continue.

National coordinator on Reproductive health Faiza Aliyeva, director of Absheron health department Mehriban Garalova, USAID Country Coordinator for Azerbaijan Scott Taylor and others addressed the event. Volunteer community peer educators were awarded.
