Conference and photo-exhibition on 190th anniversary of German settlement in Azerbaijan take place

On Monday, Baku Slavic University (BSU) hosted the international scientific conference and photo-exhibition â€œGermans in Azerbaijanâ€ dedicated to 190th anniversary of Germansâ€™ settlement in Azerbaijan. BSU Rector Kamal Abdullayev said the settlement of Germans in Azerbaijan was an interesting fragment of the countryâ€™s history. â€œWe have to deeply learn our history and to understand it. It will contribute to our integration into Europeâ€. Official of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism Firudin Gurbanov said the Germans left a large heritage in Azerbaijan, had a great impact on Azerbaijanâ€™s economy, particularly agriculture and spoke about their role in the cultural life. He said the ministry was protecting more that 300 German houses as a historical monument. Researchers of Germansâ€™ settlement in Azerbaijan, intelligent people, members of the parliament, representatives of the regions of Goy Gol, Shamkir, Aghstafa, where the Germans were settled, attended the conference organized by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, BSU and German-Azerbaijani society. The conference will continue its work in Goy Gol in few days.
