Israeli experts held workshop titled “Water resources managing and desert prevention†in Baku

Israel’s embassy in Azerbaijan, UNDP and Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources of Azerbaijan organized five-day workshop titled “Water Resources Management and Desert Prevention†in Baku on March 30-April 3, 2009. According to APA, the workshop aimed to improve skills of national experts on effective planning strategy for melioration technology toward protection of water resources and layer of earth. Israeli water experts Alexander Feingersch and Alexander Fried Zaichik shared their experiences with 27 experts from Azerbaijan, including representatives of the Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources, Ministry of Agriculture, Water Commission and non-governmental organizations.
Addressing the certificate presentation ceremony, deputy minister of Environment and Natural Resources Firdowsi aliyev said Azerbaijan needed in skillful personnel for economically using of drinking water resources. He said using of Israel’s experience would be in favor of Azerbaijan because it had developed agriculture. Aliyev said some Azerbaijani experts would visit Israel to improve their skills. UN resident-coordinator in Azerbaijan Bruno Pueza said the workshop was organized by the Israeli experts in time. He added that 5th World Water Forum took place on March 16-22 and the World Water Day was celebrated on March 22. The United Nations submitted its report on the world water resources at the forum. Pueza said water was an important factor for the economic development.
Israel’s ambassador to Azerbaijan Arthur Lenk said that idea of workshops was initiated at the meeting of Israeli and Azerbaijani presidents in January, 2009. The presidents emphasized the development of agricultural and environmental cooperation as an important factor. The ambassador said Israel was always ready to share its experience with its partners.
