Baku. Lachin Sultanova–APA. New student immigration system launches on Wednesday in the United Kingdom. The new regulations will cover the international students from all countries, apart from EU countries, as well as Norway, Iceland and Lichtenstein, British ambassador to Azerbaijan Carolyn Browne said at a press conference in Baku, APA reports. “The UK is always supporting the international students. Last year 358 thousand of international students were studying in the UK, which is 20 percent of total number of the students in the country. The new regulations aim to prevent foreigners, who arrive in the country on the plea of education”.
Under the new system, the students will need to prove that they have been accepted onto a course run by an education institution which is a UK Border Agency (UKBA) licensed Tier 4 sponsor, prove that they have the means to support themselves, and supply their domestic details at their local visa application center, said local UKBA spokesperson. If granted a visa, the new Tier 4 regulations allow international students to undertake part-time work of up to 20 hours per week during term time, full time work during the holidays and undertake any course related work placements. Visa fee will also be changed from April 6. It rose from 81 AZN to 84 AZN for Azerbaijani citizens. The Azerbaijani students have to pay 182 AZN for visa.

Last year, 260 Azerbaijani students applied for long-term education in the UK and 215 of them were granted a visa. 440 of 590 short-term applicants received a visa. There were totally 5381 visa applicants and 91 of them said that they wanted residency in the United Kingdom.
