World Tourism Organization Commission for Europe holds 49th session in Baku

Baku. Ilhama Isabalayeva-APA. The United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) Commission for Europe is holding its 49th meeting in Baku, Azerbaijan.
Abulfaz garayev, Azerbaijanâ€™s Minister of Culture and Tourism, said representatives from about 40 countries attending the meeting have already been acquainted with Azerbaijanâ€™s tourism potential and expressed interest in promotion of these tourist opportunities in Europe.
He said Azerbaijan is committed to taking active part in the UNWTO events and activities and may host the meeting of the UNWTO General Assembly in about three years.
â€œHowever, this is a serious procedure. We need prepare for this,â€ he added.
Phoebe Katsouris, Director General of the Cyprus Tourism Organization, who also chairs the UNWTO Commission for Europe, called on ministers to take measures against the global crisis.
Phoebe Katsouris said all countries particularly European countries should make more extensive use of innovations in order to escape from the economic crisis.
Taleb Rifai, Secretary-General ad interim of the UNWTO, emphasized the need to consider a joint action plan for 2010-2011 for getting out of the crisis.
