Azerbaijani students granted Mendeleyev scholarships

Baku. Lachin Sultanova–APA. Students of various universities have been granted Mendeleyev scholarships in Baku Slavic University, APA reports.
Chief of the Russian President’s Office Sergey Naryshkin presented scholarships to ten students, Ramiz Mehdiyev, Chief of the President’s Office of Azerbaijan attending the event said that Russian language took an important place in Azerbaijani universities.
“About 16.000 students study in Russian sectors of universities at present and over 70.000 students learn Russian language as separate subject, 215.000 pupils learn Russian as foreign language, 109.000 pupils study in Russian sectors of the schools. All of these factors are strong base for our future cooperation. Mehdiyev mentioned that 17th anniversary of establishment of diplomatic relations between Russia and Azerbaijan would be on April 4.
“These relations continue successfully and humanitarian cooperation also plays an important role in this issue,” he said.
Sergey Naryshkin making a keynote speech expressed his satisfaction with the fact that Azerbaijan respected for Russian language and culture.
“Russian language and culture are not properties of Russia and they are our common values and values of people, who live in CIS. We assess humanitarian cooperation between our countries,” he said.
