Azerbaijan to spend $7 million on population census in April

The Committee said AZN 5 460 619 ($6.8 million) was allocated from the government funds for the census. Preparation for the census has continued to progress on schedule and necessary funding and equipment have been allotted.
According to the committee, schematic plans of 57 cities, 124 towns and districts and 69 settlements, and maps of 58 districts have been prepared and sent to local statistical departments.
The questionnaire form containing 29 questions mostly based on the UN recommendations cover geographical, demographic, economic, social, ethnic-cultural and housing criteria.
The process will involve 540 census stations, 3 780 instructors and 19 counting stations.
According to the plan, more than 24 000 temporarily hired people will be needed.
The population census is held every 10 years. According to the latest official data by the State Statistics Committee, Azerbaijan’s population reached 8.73 million as at January 1, 2009.
