Kura-Araz environmental monitoring results announced

Baku. Ilhama Isabalayeva–APA. National Environmental Monitoring Department of the Azerbaijan’s Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources announced results of monitoring conducted in the first ten days of February in trans-border rivers of Kura and Araz and their trans-border branches. Press service of the ministry told APA trans-border pollution of Kura River in Georgia territory with phenol and copper compounds was identified during the monitoring. Coagulation of these substances exceeded it normal level for many times. In Shikhli-2 point on Kura the phenol coagulation double exceeded the normal level, copper compounds – for three times, double increase was fixed in Agstafachay point, in Afstafachay water storage - 2 and 3 successively. Industrial, agricultural and domestic wastes to the river in Georgia and Armenia caused the pollution of rivers with biogenic substances.
According to the results of monitoring, phenol and copper compounds exceedd its normal level in Araz River trans-bordered with Armenia. The coagulation of phenols in Horadiz, 1st Shahseven and Bahramtepe points double exceeded the normal level, copper compounds in Horadiz and Bahramtepe – for three times, in Shahseven – for four times.
Oxygen regime of the water was within the sanitary norms ranging 6.63-9.78 mg/l.
