Azerbaijan will add AZN 140 million to cash benefits to military personnel

Baku. Rashad Suleymanov - APA-Economics. Azerbaijanâ€™s 2009 draft budget envisions an additional allocation of AZN 140.4 million in cash benefits to the defense and security personnel.
According to the blueprint, Azerbaijan cut defense and security spending outlook by 10.3% in the 2009 state budget, compared to the approved forecast for 2008.
AZN 1 205.520 million is earmarked for next year.
â€œOf this, AZN 1 115.948 million will go to defense forces, AZN 84.561 million to national security, AZN 2.633 million to applied research and AZN 2.379 million to other expenses. The reason for a year-over-year decline in defense spending is that fixed capital investment was made in previous years,â€ said the countryâ€™s minister of finance. The country increased expenditure forecast by 13.6% to AZN 680.244 million for the maintenance of judicial branch, law-enforcement bodies and prosecutorsâ€™ offices.
